Lamp Design

A simple bulb and cord is draped over an aluminum frame. The user is able to adjust and wrap this cord to their desired height. This lamp is distilled to its simplest form, putting the emphasis on the user interaction, and not on the lamp in the space. Simple touch points were designed to seem effortless and smooth, and the bulb's visual weight emphasized with tension in the cord.

I began by sketching the a simple form used to hold the light in space. Ideas were edited and edited until only the most critical features remained. What was left was a simple aluminum curve resting in a steel base. With such a simple form, all interaction points had to be seamless and engaging. Much consideration went into the details, making sure not to over-design or under-design.

Quick sketch models were created in small and large scale. This helped idealize the proportions and ensure the weight of all elements were balanced.
